One of our favorites design details in our first book, Remodelista: A Manual for the Considered Home, are the puddle-like mirrors in French designer Corinne Gilbert’s Brooklyn atelier. We had never encountered anything like them—until recently, when we looked up and started to see asymmetrical mirrors everywhere.
How to explain it? MC & Co., Corinne’s influential former business with artist Dan McCarthy, seems to have jumpstarted the trend. And then the world went askew and these wonky wall hangings proliferated, perhaps because they help capture the state of things. Of course, like all mirrors, they also help make spaces feel bigger. Here are nine shining examples, Corinne and Dan’s originals included.
